BEIRUT: Hezbollah announced that its air defense units have successfully confronted a drone from Israel, often referred to by the group as the “Zionist entity,” forcing it to retreat from Lebanese airspace. This incident comes amidst heightened tensions in the region and ongoing conflicts involving the Palestinian territories.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hezbollah released a statement declaring its actions as a show of support for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in defense of Lebanon. The statement highlighted, “In support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their valiant and honorable resistance and in defense of Lebanon and its people, the Islamic Resistance fighters in the air defense units confronted a drone belonging to the Zionist entity in the airspace of the south with a surface-to-air missile, forcing it to retreat and leave Lebanese airspace.”
The confrontation underscores the ongoing volatility in the region, where airspace violations
and military engagements are not uncommon. Hezbollah’s announcement emphasizes their continued support for Palestinian resistance efforts while also asserting Lebanon’s sovereignty against perceived threats from Israel. The use of surface-to-air missiles to deter the drone highlights the group’s readiness to engage in aerial defense measures.
