UN Representative Meets with Iraqi Electoral Commission to Discuss Successful Kurdistan Elections


BAGHDAD: The Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq welcomed the Special Representative of the United Nations, Mohammed Al-Hassan, to discuss the recent success of the 2024 Kurdistan Region elections. Judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of the Board, along with other council members, expressed gratitude for the UN’s substantial support in ensuring a transparent electoral process.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Judge Omar Ahmed commended the United Nations mission for its significant contributions to the electoral commission, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that helped overcome challenges and ensured the elections were conducted smoothly. The discussions highlighted the importance of transparency and efficient execution as cornerstones of the electoral process.

Mohammed Al-Hassan congratulated the Independent High Electoral Commission on its achievements, noting the impressive results and the effective integration of modern technologies that expedited the
election outcomes. The Election Commission released the preliminary results of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections within 24 hours of the polls closing on October 20, marking a notable advancement in electoral operations.
