Al-Mandlawi Safe After Missiles Target Beirut Airport During His Arrival

BEIRUT: The acting parliament speaker of Iraq, Mohsen Al-Mandlawi, has been confirmed safe following a missile targeting near Beirut International Airport on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred as Al-Mandlawi’s plane was landing, with reports indicating that two missiles were fired at the airport’s approaches. Despite the attack, Al-Mandlawi and his parliamentary delegation were unharmed.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mandlawi’s office confirmed his safety through a phone call. The acting speaker is in Beirut for discussions with key Lebanese officials, including Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, scheduled for Wednesday. His visit follows participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference in Geneva and is part of Iraq’s diplomatic efforts to address regional tensions.

Al-Mandlawi’s trip is aimed at fostering dialogue to prevent further escalation of conflict in the region, particularly in light of ongoing aggression against Lebanese and Palestinian communities. The incident un
derscores the volatile situation in Beirut, yet Al-Mandlawi’s office emphasizes the importance of continued diplomatic engagement to avert a broader conflict.
