Iraq and Azerbaijan Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Cooperation at COP 29.


Baku: President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Heydar Aliyev at the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29 in Baku. The discussion focused on enhancing the cooperative relationship between Iraq and Azerbaijan across multiple sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting emphasized the importance of broadening collaboration to encompass economy, industry, investment, tourism, environment, and energy sectors for mutual benefit. The leaders also discussed topics related to the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29.

The Iraqi President highlighted the necessity of activating both bilateral and international cooperation mechanisms to combat global climate change and mitigate its impacts. Regional and global issues were also on the agenda, with both sides agreeing on the importance of intensifying international efforts to address current challenges and promote global peace and security.

President Aliyev expressed gratitude for President Rashid’s
visit and participation in the conference, reiterating Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iraq. President Rashid’s visit to Baku was upon an official invitation from President Aliyev to attend the United Nations Climate Summit.
