Baghdad: Air Defense Commander, Lieutenant General Pilot Muhannad Ghaleb Al-Asadi, confirmed today, Sunday, that the Iraqi army has witnessed a major transformation in its combat, armament, and logistical capabilities and potentials during the past years, while revealing the imminent arrival of modern weapons systems that will enhance its capabilities and put it among the advanced armies in terms of armament.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Lieutenant General Al-Assadi stated, “The great sacrifices made by the Iraqi army during the 104 years since its establishment indicate the size of the contributions and the type of military challenges it faced, and constitute a record full of readiness, courage, determination, development, and the desire to achieve the glory it deserves.” He highlighted the army’s exceptional performance during the significant battles in 2014 and subsequent years against international terrorist organizations, demonstrating a unique ability to manage and win battles swiftly, impr
essing military observers worldwide.
He further added that the continuous guidance and follow-up of the political leadership in Iraq, particularly towards the armed forces, have greatly contributed to the army’s readiness and preparedness to confront and resolve various threats facing the country.
Al-Asadi elaborated on the army units’ equipment with combat and defensive systems that are on par with their counterparts in neighboring countries. He emphasized that with diligent efforts and under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister, who heads the Supreme Armament Committee, the Ministry of Defense has successfully concluded major armament contracts over the past two years. These contracts are characterized by advanced technology suitable for various branches of the Iraqi army, including air defense, army aviation, artillery, and armored corps. He noted that the arrival of these armament systems is imminent and will significantly enhance the army’s capabilities, positioning it among the advanced armies
in terms of armament.
