Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s commitment to eradicate terrorist gangs that have lost their foothold and contact with population centers. He highlighted the progress made over the past two years in securing Iraq’s borders and controlling areas previously exploited by terrorist groups.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s media office detailed a meeting between al-Sudani and General Kevin Leahy, commander of the international coalition forces against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The US Charg© d’Affaires in Iraq, Daniel Rubinstein, was also in attendance. The meeting focused on reviewing the general security situation in the region and emphasized the ongoing cooperation between Iraqi security forces and coalition advisors in tracking down remnants of ISIS.

The discussions also reiterated the commitments of the international coalition to Iraq, highlighting the continuation of joint programs. The statement underscored the capabilities and control achieved by the Iraqi armed forces, as well as their proactive intelligence operations and development of strategies to pursue any cross-border criminal or terrorist activities.
