PM Outlines Government’s Economic Diversification Plans at Iraq Conference


Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the government’s commitment to a program designed to diversify the economy and eliminate the mono-rentier economy. This announcement was made during his speech at the Iraq Development Platform Conference, highlighting the pivotal role of the energy sector in governmental strategies.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister noted a significant achievement in the reduction of gas flaring by 70%. He also mentioned the country’s progress towards self-sufficiency in the oil derivatives industry, while underlining the development of infrastructure for transportation, gas, and communications.



Al-Sudani stated that the Ministry of Electricity is preparing to unveil a significant package of energy production projects focused on gas stations. Furthermore, he highlighted Iraq’s advancements in establishing electrical connections with Gulf countries, Turkey, and the European Union, which are expected to enhance the nation’s energy network.



The Prime Minister concluded by asserting that Iraq’s international standing is improving, with the country now being viewed as a fundamental element in stabilizing the global energy market.
