Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s firm and principled position in supporting the Palestinian cause. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “Hussein received, today, Wednesday, the Chairman of the Palestinian Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Fatah Movement, Jibril Rajoub, accompanied by the Palestinian Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Al-Ruwaidi, in the presence of the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments in Palestine, the latest developments on the Palestinian scene, and ways to find appropriate solutions to confront current challenges. The Minister, according to the statement, expressed his concern over the escalation of events in the West Bank, warning of the dangers of expanding the scope of the war and attempts to empty the Palestinian land of its inhabitants, reiterating Iraq’s categorical rejection of any attempts aimed at imposing forced displacement on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The Minister also affirmed Iraq’s firm and principled position in supporting the Palestinian cause, and its readiness to exert maximum efforts and endeavors to support the Palestinian people and support their legitimate rights, foremost of which is their right to establish their independent state. For his part, Rajoub stressed his country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Iraq in various fields, praising the depth of historical ties between the two countries, stressing the unity of positions and common principles.
