Kirkuk: The National Security Service in Kirkuk Governorate announced the arrest of an accused of electronic blackmail targeting a foreign citizen, as part of the “We Are Behind You” campaign to combat cybercrimes.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Service stated in a statement that the details of the operation began after a complaint was submitted to an Iraqi embassy by a foreign citizen who was blackmailed by an Iraqi citizen. The complaint was transferred to the Iraqi Intelligence Service, which in turn referred the case to the Kirkuk Security Directorate according to the territorial jurisdiction.
The statement added that after presenting the case to the Kirkuk Investigation Court judge supervising the work of the service, an arrest warrant was obtained in accordance with the provisions of Article 430 of the Iraqi Penal Code.
It continued, “Thanks to the intensification of intelligence and field efforts, our detachments were able to identify the identity of the accused and his location in Kirkuk Governorate, where a specialized team was formed that was able to arrest him and seize the phone chips that he used in the extortion operations.”
