Berlin: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz admitted defeat in the elections, describing the loss as “bitter for the Social Democrats”. Scholz congratulated the head of the “Christian Democratic Union” party, Friedrich Merz, on his victory in the German elections, and wished him success in forming the government.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Christian Democratic Party and the conservative Christian Social Union won the German elections by obtaining 29% of the votes, based on opinion poll data. The right-wing Alternative for Germany party came in second place with a record percentage of 19.5%. The Social Democratic Party led by Scholz suffered a defeat, coming in third place with 16% of the votes. The turnout in the German parliamentary elections reached 76% across the country.
