ESCWA Commits to Support Iraq in Developing National AI Strategy


Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Ms. Rola Dashti, at the Ministry building. The meeting focused on enhancing Iraq’s national strategy for artificial intelligence and strengthening various technology fields.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister appreciated the developmental contributions of ESCWA in the region, particularly in Iraq. He emphasized the importance of bolstering cooperation between ESCWA and Iraqi ministries, as well as coordinating with the Ministries of Finance and Labor to support development initiatives.



During the meeting, Dashti outlined the committee’s vision for supporting development across economic, social, and climate sectors, especially as Iraq assumes the presidency of the G77 group. She mentioned the creation of a parallel team to the technical team aimed at assisting Iraq in achieving its developmental objectives.



Dashti also expressed her commitment to aiding Iraq in formulating a national strategy for artificial intelligence and improving technology fields. Additionally, she presented an Arab vision focused on prosperity and innovation, emphasizing the significance of security, peace, tolerance, and cultural diversity. Dashti highlighted the need to activate these visions through joint development projects and executive decisions that promote sustainable development.
