Ankara: The Iraqi Ambassador to Ankara, Majid Al-Lajmawi, received the newly appointed Commander of the NATO Mission to Iraq, General Christoph Henzi, at the headquarters of the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Iraq and NATO in the security and training fields.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Embassy mentioned that Ambassador Al-Lajmawi congratulated General Henzi on his appointment in Baghdad, wishing him success in his upcoming tasks. He emphasized the importance of continuing joint cooperation between Iraq and NATO.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed aspects of cooperation, particularly in supporting the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces through training and advisory programs provided by NATO. They also discussed efforts to enhance regional stability and combat terrorism.

The Ambassador highlighted the importance of maintaining the partnership with NATO, noting the alliance’s role in providing technical and advisory support, which strengthens Iraqi defense and security capabilities. He acknowledged the security challenges facing Iraq and the region, underscoring the need for exchanging expertise.

General Henzi expressed NATO’s commitment to supporting Iraq in building its security and military institutions. He praised the Iraqi government’s efforts in enhancing security and stability and stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and cooperation through NATO-supervised training programs both inside and outside Iraq.
