Baghdad: The Parliamentary Legal Committee has raised concerns over the actions of political blocs, accusing them of prioritizing narrow partisan and electoral interests over the nation’s political stability. This criticism comes amid discussions about potential amendments to the Elections Law that have yet to reach the House of Representatives.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Muhammad Anouz, expressed dissatisfaction with the current political climate. He stated that most political blocs are more focused on securing their own electoral advantages rather than fostering a stable political environment. Anouz highlighted that this self-serving approach is evident in the election lists and the overall lack of altruism among the political entities.

Anouz argued for the necessity of a unified electoral law that embodies the public spirit and enhances citizens’ confidence in the political and electoral process. He pointed out that certain political forces are intentionally creating hurdles in the electoral process, which discourages citizen participation in elections. This strategy, according to Anouz, is aimed at benefiting those who support these political forces and have gained certain advantages through them. Despite rumors of amendments to the electoral law, Anouz emphasized that the Parliamentary Legal Committee has yet to see any concrete changes, underscoring the committee’s responsibility in this matter.
