Cairo: The Arab Summit is set to convene tomorrow in Cairo, focusing on a proposed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. This comes as Arab foreign ministers gather today, Monday, to lay the groundwork for the discussions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati announced that the Egyptian-Arab plan for rebuilding Gaza is ready for presentation at the summit. This plan awaits approval by Arab leaders during their extraordinary meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

During a political consultation session with Dubravka Suica, the European Union Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs, Abdel Aati emphasized the need for a permanent and just political solution to the Palestinian issue. He reiterated that establishing an independent Palestinian state is crucial for achieving peace in the region.

A statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the consultations included discussions on regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. Abdel Aati briefed the European official on Egypt’s efforts to solidify and sustain the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The statement further conveyed Abdel Aati’s hopes for European Union support for the Egyptian-led reconstruction plan, which has garnered backing from Arab and Islamic communities.
