Ukrainian President Stresses Need for US Support Despite Aid Suspension

Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that his country seeks real peace, adding that ‘Kyiv relies on the support of the United States in its efforts to achieve peace.’

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Zelensky explained in statements reported by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, “We must stop the war. Ukraine is working with the United States and Europe to achieve peace,” adding, “We need to stop the war and ensure security.” He continued, “We continue our work with partners. We have already held talks and will take further steps soon,” emphasizing that Ukraine is striving to make its diplomacy objective to end this war as soon as possible, stressing that “no one wants peace more than the Ukrainian people.”

US President Donald Trump had warned that his country would not tolerate Ukraine’s refusal to end the war with Russia for any longer, accusing Zelensky of “not wanting peace as long as he has Washington’s support.” It is noteworthy that the White House announced that the
United States will stop support for Ukraine and will review it to ensure its contribution to resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

American media reported that President Donald Trump ordered the freezing and suspension of all US military aid to Ukraine. A White House official stated, “Trump has made it clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to commit to this goal as well. We have suspended our aid and will review it to ensure that it contributes to the solution.”

A verbal altercation took place between the Ukrainian and American presidents in the White House last Friday, due to the disagreement over ending the Russian-Ukrainian war. The United States is the largest financial, military, and political supporter of Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian military operation on February 24, 2022.
