Syria Thwarts Attack on Naval Forces Command in Latakia

Latakia: The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the successful thwarting of an attack on the Naval Forces Command in Latakia, attributed to remnants of the former regime.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Syrian News Agency “SANA” reported a statement from the Ministry of Defense, confirming that their forces managed to prevent an assault by elements from the defunct regime, thereby restoring stability in the region. Concurrently, a security source in Latakia disclosed that a similar attack targeted the National Hospital, with General Security Forces actively responding to the threat.

The Spokesman for the Syrian Ministry of Defense, Colonel Hassan Abdul Ghani, revealed on Friday that control had been regained over the cities of Tartous and Latakia on the Syrian coast. He highlighted the rapid progress made by the Ministry of Defense forces in re-establishing control over areas that faced hostile actions against General Security personnel.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa addressed the nation, urging those associated with the former regime to surrender their weapons and themselves. In his speech, al-Sharaa emphasized the ongoing efforts of security forces to apprehend the remnants of Assad, aiming to bring them to justice. He pointed out that these elements are attempting to destabilize the country’s security and test the new order they are unfamiliar with.

Furthermore, al-Sharaa reiterated the necessity for all weapons to remain under state control, pledging accountability for any actions against civilians.
