Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized the urgent need to expedite the legislation of the Child Care Bill. During a meeting with the head and members of the Parliamentary Women, Family, and Childhood Committee, Al-Sudani extended his congratulations to the female members of the parliamentary committee and all Iraqi women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He commended Iraqi women for their significant role and effectiveness in society, highlighting their commitment to their duties and integrity in performing governmental responsibilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting involved a detailed discussion on the Child Care Bill, with Al-Sudani underlining the importance of speeding up its legislation. The discussions also included the possibility of establishing a fund specifically for child care. Al-Sudani expressed his approval of the parliamentary committee’s proposal concerning the Family Institution Law, which considers the societal and familial contexts of Iraqi families.

Al-Sudani referenced the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs, established as a platform for communication and follow-up on women’s issues. He encouraged women to actively participate in the labor market and take advantage of government initiatives like the Riyada Initiative, loans for small projects from the Ministry of Labor, and the Central Bank’s initiative offering soft loans for women. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of raising awareness about the Social Security Law and its provision for women’s rights in the private sector.

Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Women, Family, and Childhood expressed their appreciation for the government’s efforts in women’s care, protection, and empowerment. They also praised the government’s initiatives in monitoring service and industrial projects, acknowledging their significance in the country’s progress and development.
