New York: Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, condemned the ongoing Israeli military incursion into Syrian territory. Yildiz stated during a speech to the UN Security Council that the incursion represents a destabilizing action and called for immediate measures against Israel.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Yildiz discussed the challenges facing Damascus’ stability at the UN Security Council session on chemical weapons in Syria. He highlighted that since 1967, Israel has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights and more recently, has seized the Syrian buffer zone, conducting airstrikes on Syrian military sites.

Yildiz emphasized Turkey’s commitment to preserving Syria’s stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He noted the significant threat posed by the occupation of Syrian territory by the YPG/PKK (SDF), stressing the need to eliminate these groups to achieve a politically unified Syria.

The ambassador expressed satisfaction with Syria’s cooperat
ion with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in eliminating chemical weapons from the region. He described Syria’s commitment as a historic opportunity to close the chemical weapons file.

Turkey has consistently communicated concerns regarding Syria’s chemical weapons to the new administration, offering support to resolve the issue. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani confirmed Syria’s commitment to the OPCW during a session in The Hague, aiming to destroy remnants of the Assad regime’s chemical weapons program.
