Al-Sudani Urges Swift Land Preparation for Solar Energy Projects

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed the Governors to expedite the preparation of lands for smart management projects aimed at generating solar energy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office revealed that he chaired a meeting on Monday to discuss the technical aspects and smart solutions involved in implementing the solar energy project. The meeting included the Minister of Electricity, the National Team for Smart Solutions and Renewable Energy, as well as several governors and advisors to the Prime Minister.

The discussions focused on the energy systems’ functionality and production output, emphasizing the adoption of solar energy systems, smart meters, and innovative collection methods. The meeting also considered the private sector’s role in these projects under local government supervision and in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, which will oversee energy purchases, pricing, and costs.

Al-Sudani instructed the Governors to promptly prepare lands for private sector involvement in these projects, identify investment priorities, and compile a list of interested companies and investors. Additionally, he directed the Ministry of Electricity to immediately draft technical contracts with specific standards and simplified procedures for the smart solar energy project, which are to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval.
