Diyala: Diyala Council Chairman Omar Al-Karwi has urged political forces to convene a meeting to discuss a roadmap for resolving the ongoing political crisis in the region. Al-Karwi expressed his willingness to step down from his position, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the Sunni component and its representatives are not sidelined from their rightful entitlements.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Karwi stated, “The decision of the guardianship order issued by the Administrative Court today represents justice for me for the second time. It is not a victory over political parties that unjustly tried to remove me from the position. These forces did not find any legal loophole, whether it was transgressions or financial or administrative violations, but rather adopted a political stance against me for reasons known to everyone.”

Al-Karwi further elaborated on his stance, emphasizing that his attachment to the position is not personal but rather a matter of rightful claim for the Sunni component. He stressed the need for the Sunni figures to have a say in the leadership decisions, given the responsibility they bear not only for their community but for all components. He called for an expanded meeting among political forces to develop a solution to the political challenges facing Diyala.

Al-Karwi highlighted his primary concern as the interests of the people of Diyala, with an insistence that the Sunni component remains integral in any political agreements. He warned against undermining the agreement reached in Baghdad eight months ago, urging that any attempts to alter the local government structure without considering consequences will not be tolerated. He made clear that any actions resembling a “white coup” would be met with accountability.

In his statement, Al-Karwi reassured that he is ready to relinquish his position if it leads to fair reorganization of Diyala’s affairs and entitlements. He opposed the influence of emerging political forces over decision-making in Diyala, acknowledging the weight of responsibility carried by the votes of tens of thousands of citizens.

The Administrative Court’s recent decision to reinstate Omar Al-Karwi as Chairman of the Diyala Provincial Council marks the second such ruling in recent months, highlighting the ongoing political turbulence in the region.
