Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced Thursday evening that Tehran sent its response to US President Donald Trump’s message via the Sultanate of Oman. In an interview with the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Araqchi stated, “Iran’s official response to the US President’s message was sent in an appropriate manner and via the Sultanate of Oman.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Araqchi elaborated that the official response includes a message outlining Iran’s views on the current situation and Trump’s message, which have been fully explained and conveyed to the other party. The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that Iran’s policy is to avoid direct negotiations under conditions of maximum pressure and military threats, but indirect negotiations can continue as they have in the past.

Araqchi noted that indirect negotiations have been a part of Iran’s diplomatic efforts during the government of former President Hassan Rouhani as well as during the government of the late President Ebrahim Raisi. In early March, US President Donald Trump mentioned that he had sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, expressing his interest in reaching an agreement with Tehran regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
