The Pentagon Denies Reducing Its Forces in Syria

Washington: Commenting on reports about a reduction in the US military presence in Syria, the Pentagon confirmed that it periodically redeploys its forces there to meet field requirements, denying any reduction.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Pentagon Spokesperson told RIA Novosti: “The Department of Defense periodically redeploys its forces in response to operational requirements and emergency circumstances.”

He added: “These movements reflect the flexibility of the US defense strategy and its ability to adapt to changing security threats, as well as the ability to rapidly deploy anywhere around the world.”

This comment comes after CBS News reported last Tuesday that Washington was considering reducing the number of its forces in Syria, currently estimated at about 2,000, with the remaining forces concentrated in a smaller number of bases.
