Lima: A Peruvian court sentenced former President Ollanta Humala and his wife, Nadine Heredia, to 15 years in prison on money laundering charges. The court concluded that Humala, who served as President from 2011 to 2016, received “illicit donations” from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht and the Venezuelan government during his 2006 and 2011 election campaigns.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Humala was unsuccessful in the 2006 election but was elected President in 2011. His wife, Nadine Heredia, was considered a powerful figure during his term. It is noteworthy that all Peruvian presidents over the past 25 years have faced legal problems.
