Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani affirmed on Thursday that Iraq stands with the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle. The media office of the Speaker of Parliament released a statement detailing al-Mashhadani’s meeting with Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nuh Yilmaz, accompanied by Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Anil Bora Anan, and other members of the Turkish diplomatic delegation.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on the deep historical relations between Iraq and Turkey, emphasizing the strong ties based on geographical proximity, cultural affinity, historical bonds, and shared religious and social values. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening and developing these relations in various political, economic, and social fields to serve the interests of their peoples and achieve development and stability in the region.
The statement highlighted discussions on regional developments, particularly the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Al-Mashhadani called for an immediate end to the conflict affecting civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, reiterating Iraq’s support for the Palestinian people’s rights. The meeting also emphasized the need for bilateral and regional cooperation mechanisms to address security challenges, especially in combating terrorism, to protect security and civil peace in the region.
At the meeting’s conclusion, Al-Mashhadani underscored the importance of preserving societal peace in the region and the necessity of unified diplomatic efforts to find peaceful solutions to conflicts. He expressed appreciation for Turkish efforts in supporting regional stability.
