Baghdad: Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, emphasized the importance of prioritizing Iraq’s supreme interests over emotional considerations during his address at the Balad Air Base. His remarks came as part of the celebrations marking the anniversary of the Iraqi Air Force’s founding, a force that he acknowledged has a history almost as long as the modern Iraqi state itself.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani reflected on the challenges faced by the Air Force during the dictatorship, noting that it had been subjected to ill-conceived military ventures that drained its resources and led to the loss of skilled officers. He highlighted the bravery of some officers who opposed the dictatorship, only to face execution, torture, and exclusion for their resistance.

Al-Sudani underscored the government’s commitment to the advancement of the armed forces, with a particular focus on the Air Force. He stressed the importance of developing the Air Force along modern lines and according to scientific plans, aiming to match the training that pilots receive in advanced countries. This includes diversifying the sources of armament to enhance the capabilities of the Air Force.

The Prime Minister proudly stated that Iraqi pilots are now flying aircraft that are rare even among global air forces, and they receive education at some of the world’s leading military academies. This continuous support has fostered the establishment of a national air force that Iraq can take pride in, with its notable contributions to military operations.

Al-Sudani also highlighted the constructive cooperation and effective coordination with regional countries in combating terrorism, reiterating that the work is guided by a vision that places Iraq’s interests above all, free from emotional or biased stances. He concluded his speech by reaffirming the government’s pledge to uphold the principle of prioritizing Iraq’s interests, regardless of the challenges and sacrifices involved.
