Baghdad: Independent Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman believes that the Sadrist Movement’s withdrawal from the upcoming elections does not serve the political process and allows others to monopolize it.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Othman stated, “The Sadrist movement’s announcement of its withdrawal from the upcoming electoral process, and the prior withdrawal of Sadrist representatives from parliament, is incorrect. If the Sadrist movement wants to play a role in the political process, it must participate in the elections. Otherwise, what is the benefit of its isolation and others monopolizing political and governmental decisions?”
He explained that serving the country requires active participation in parliament and government. Otherwise, withdrawal will reinforce and increase corruption, and the political situation will worsen. Therefore, it is better to participate in the elections, and then the Sadrist movement will attempt to rectify the country’s affairs. Otherwise, sitting back from the political process will not fix anything. Othman indicated that the Sadrist movement could return to participate in the elections at any moment, even before the eve of the election.
