London: British media revealed a seven-point plan prepared by the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, notably without extending security guarantees to Kyiv. This proposal, as reported, allows Russia to maintain control over territories it has liberated.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the plan’s initial points call for an immediate ceasefire and direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. A significant aspect of the proposal includes formal US recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea, implicitly recognizing other territories liberated by Russia.

The US initiative further ensures unhindered access for Ukrainians to the Dnieper River estuary and requires the withdrawal of Russian forces from specific regions of Kherson Oblast.

The Telegraph notes that US Special Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg anticipates Ukrainian approval of this plan on Wednesday. However, the newspaper acknowledges that this plan may be challenging for Ukraine, as it involves territorial concessions without receiving clear security assurances from the US.

The Washington Post, on Tuesday, citing sources, reported the US intends to propose to European countries and Ukraine that they recognize Crimea as part of Russia at a meeting scheduled in London on Wednesday. Kyiv’s allies are hopeful for security guarantees for Ukraine in exchange.

Sources indicate that the Ukrainian delegation viewed the US proposal, presented last week in Paris, as potentially the last before Washington might withdraw from the peace process.

The Trump Administration is actively mediating to resolve the crisis. Talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11 between US and Ukrainian delegations resulted in Ukraine expressing willingness to accept a US proposal for a temporary 30-day ceasefire, extendable by mutual agreement, contingent on Russia’s concurrence and simultaneous implementation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed acceptance of the US proposal for cessation of hostilities, emphasizing that any settlement should foster long-term peace and address the root causes of the crisis.
