London: Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, confirmed today that clean energy projects in Iraq aim to produce 12,000 megawatts. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister of Oil emphasized during his speech at the Future of Energy Security and the Transition to Sustainable Resources Summit held in London, that fossil fuels will continue to be a crucial energy and industry source in the foreseeable future. The Minister highlighted the Iraqi government's efforts and plans to expand renewable energy usage, focusing especially on solar energy projects intended for electricity generation, with a target of producing 12,000 megawatts. Additionally, he mentioned significant investments in associated gas projects, such as the Southern Iraq Integrated Project in cooperation with Total, which includes the novel use of seawater for injection into oil fields. The Ministry's statement noted that the Future Energy Security Summit is taking place with the involvement of energy ministers and senior officials from over 60 countries. The event also sees participation from major global energy companies, facilitated by a collaboration between the British government and the International Energy Agency.
