Suspect Arrested in Nineveh for Voter Card Trafficking


Nineveh: A suspect has been apprehended by the National Security Service in Nineveh for involvement in the buying and selling of voter cards. The Supreme Judicial Council reported the arrest of an individual accused of trafficking 1,147 voter cards within the Nineveh Governorate.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Judicial Council’s media office released a statement revealing that the arrest was conducted following a decision by the Nineveh Investigation Court judge. During the operation, authorities confiscated twenty million dinars from the suspect.



The statement further disclosed that the suspect admitted to collaborating with a group of individuals to acquire voter cards from various regions across Nineveh Governorate. These cards were intended for resale to certain candidates as elections neared, at a doubled price, treating the scheme as a commercial enterprise.



Legal actions have been initiated against the accused under Article 40 of the House of Representatives, Provincial and District Councils Elections Law No. 12 of 2018, as amended.
