Baghdad: Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Security Committee for Hajj Delegations, Abdul Amir Al Shammari, confirmed that the Hajj Caravan Route will be fully secured with modern equipment and surveillance cameras. A statement from his media office said: “The Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Supreme Security Committee for Hajj and Umrah Security, Abdul Amir Al Shammari, chaired an expanded meeting that included the Chairman of the Hajj and Umrah Commission, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, a number of security leaders, and representatives of relevant authorities. All operational commanders and police commanders from all governorates were present via videoconference to discuss ongoing preparations for securing the Hajj pilgrims to the Holy Land.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al Shammari explained that the Supreme Security Committee’s duty for securing this important occasion is to provide the necessary protection for land convoys heading to the Holy House of God, as well as convoys heading to airports. The Minister emphasized that last year’s convoying process was exemplary, noting that the first Hajj convoys will depart this year on May 14th. He added that the route of these convoys will be fully secured using modern technology, equipment, and surveillance cameras, in addition to the steps taken for this purpose, including fully securing pilgrim gathering areas.

During the meeting, according to the statement, a number of topics related to the success of security efforts during the current Hajj season were discussed.
