Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani engaged in discussions with Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Movement, regarding the ongoing preparations for the upcoming 34th Arab Summit, set to be hosted in Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Secretary-General’s office confirmed the meeting took place in Baghdad. The discussions focused on the meticulous preparations underway to ensure the success of the Arab Summit. Sheikh al-Khazali lauded the government’s efforts, emphasizing that Iraq’s re-emergence as a key player in Arab affairs signifies the success of the current government’s strategy of balance and sovereignty.

The meeting also included a comprehensive review of the latest political and security developments in Iraq. A significant point of discussion was the Turkish military presence in Iraqi territory, especially in light of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s recent announcement of its dissolution. Both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining Iraq’s sovereignty and formulating a unified national stance to prevent external interference and safeguard Iraq’s territorial integrity.

Additionally, al-Sudani and al-Khazali highlighted the necessity of enhancing national coordination among state institutions and political entities to ensure the country’s stability and preserve its achievements. They underscored the importance of fortifying Iraq’s sovereign decision-making capabilities amidst regional and international challenges.
