Baghdad: An officer and several Civil Defense personnel were injured in a fire that erupted inside three commercial buildings in central Baghdad.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Civil Defense reported that the buildings, situated in the Shorja commercial market behind the Social Security Building, were dilapidated, with old floors and in violation of safety regulations. These buildings were being used to store hand tools and highly flammable construction materials.
The Civil Defense statement noted that teams were mobilized swiftly to contain the fire. They surrounded the blaze, isolated the affected building from its surroundings, and conducted direct firefighting operations. The teams were able to enter the burning structures and successfully bring the fire under control.
The statement also indicated that the injuries to the officer and several Civil Defense personnel occurred due to the collapse of part of one of the buildings, attributed to its aged construction. The injured were transported to a hospital for medical attention.
