Baghdad: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani welcomed US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the lifting of sanctions on Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sheibani emphasized that “Trump’s decision to lift sanctions is a pivotal turning point for the Syrian people,” highlighting that “the US President has offered the Syrian people more than his predecessors, who allowed war criminals to cross red lines.”

The Syrian Foreign Minister further mentioned that “President Donald Trump can achieve a historic peace agreement and a real victory for US interests in Syria.”

US President Donald Trump announced from Saudi Arabia this evening the lifting of sanctions on Syria after discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Syria, which has seen so much suffering and death, now has a new government, and we should all hope that it can stabilize the country and maintain peace,” Trump told the Saudi-American Investment Forum in Riyadh.
