Baghdad: The UAE has announced an agreement with Israel to facilitate the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The agreement was reached during a phone call between Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the aid package is designed to initially meet the food needs of approximately 15,000 civilians in Gaza. It will also include basic bakery supplies and essential materials for infant care. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed emphasized the importance of ensuring that humanitarian, relief, and medical aid reach the Palestinian people in Gaza in an urgent, safe, and unhindered manner.

The Agency reported that the discussions also touched on regional and international efforts aimed at resuming the truce agreement, achieving a ceasefire, and the release of hostages. The backdrop to these efforts is increasing international pressure on Israel, particularly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a new military offensive on Gaza.

The situation in Gaza has been exacerbated by a crippling blockade and the denial of aid entry since early March. Israel’s prevention of medical, food, and fuel supplies into the Strip has prompted warnings from international experts about a potential famine.
