Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, have jointly condemned the recent Zionist aggression against Iran, targeting its military, civilian, and scientific facilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the media office of the Speaker of the Council of Representatives detailed that the Speaker received the President to discuss the current situation in the region. The meeting addressed the overall situation in the country, the relationship between the House of Representatives and the Presidency, and prospects for joint cooperation in serving the public interest.

The discussion also covered the heightened tensions in the region following the Zionist attacks on Iran and their implications for Iraq and the surrounding area. Both leaders expressed their strong condemnation of the aggression by the Zionist occupation forces, viewing it as a dangerous escalation in regional conflict management.

The leaders stressed the importance of supporting the Iraqi government’s efforts to maintain sovereignty and prevent the nation’s resources from being used for attacks on neighboring countries. They highlighted the necessity of ensuring internal security, stability, and societal unity.

On security matters, the statement emphasized the need to protect Iraq’s borders and airspace by acquiring advanced weapons, anti-aircraft missiles, and enhancing air defense systems through collaboration between the Security and Defense Committee and the Ministry of Defense.

Additionally, both sides agreed to hold regular meetings, including the three presidencies, to address internal issues and facilitate the passage of an oil and gas law. They underscored the importance of ongoing communication and consultation between the House of Representatives and the Presidency to serve the Iraqi people’s interests and uphold the country’s sovereignty.
