Baghdad: The parliamentary opposition bloc has expressed its discontent over the absence of governorate representatives during an emergency session meant to address the violation of Iraqi airspace. The bloc is calling for the crisis cell to meet permanently to handle any regional developments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the bloc, MP Amir Abdul-Habar, highlighted in a press conference on Tuesday that the session dedicated to discussing the airspace violation failed to achieve a quorum, with only 75 members of parliament attending. Notably absent were representatives from Kurdish blocs, central and southern governorates, and western governorates. Abdul-Habar emphasized that only individuals were present to deliberate on a matter critical to Iraq’s sovereignty, security, and stability.

He further mentioned that since last year, there has been an official request to establish a secret operations room led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. This proposed room would include participation from all security agencies and formations, both within and outside the security services, to ensure that national decisions prioritize Iraq’s interests and prevent the nation from being drawn into military and security conflicts.
