Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses its absolute rejection of the Zionist entity’s violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and its use of its airspace to carry out attacks on Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Ulum, received the Deputy US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elizabeth Trudeau. During the meeting, they discussed the dangerous developments in the region, against the backdrop of the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the escalation it represents that threatens the security and stability of the region.

The Undersecretary affirmed the Republic of Iraq’s condemnation of this aggression, considering it a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. He also emphasized the categorical rejection of the Zionist entity’s violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and the use of its airspace to carry out this attack, and its refusal to conduct any military or logistical operations from its airspace. He condemned the launching of military strikes against nuclear sites, as they pose a direct threat to public safety and the environment in the region and constitute a flagrant violation of international law.

He noted that Iraq has submitted an official complaint to the UN Security Council condemning the violation of its airspace, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and immediately cease the war.

For her part, the US Deputy Ambassador affirmed that the United States did not participate in any military operations, affirming her country’s commitment to supporting efforts to preserve Iraq’s security and stability. She noted that Washington is making strenuous efforts to halt military operations and escalation in the region, and to work to push all parties toward calm and prioritize diplomatic solutions.

The two sides also discussed the recent US measures to reduce the number of non-essential staff at the US Embassy in Baghdad. The Undersecretary noted that the renewed security warning in Iraq is not consistent with the reality and improvement of security conditions, and the efforts made by the Iraqi government in this regard. They stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent the region from slipping into a comprehensive conflict.
