Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, received a phone call from French Foreign Minister Jean-No«l Barrot, during which they discussed the latest regional developments in light of the dangerous escalation resulting from the attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two sides affirmed their convergence of views on the seriousness of the current situation. They stressed the need for the international community to take urgent action to halt military operations by all parties, warning that continued escalation will lead to wider international crises, both economically and humanitarianly.

The importance of preventing the war from expanding or drawing additional international and regional parties into it, which would threaten global security and stability, was also emphasized.

Fuad Hussein stressed the need for European countries, especially France, Britain, and Germany, to play a direct and effective role in pushing for an immediate ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table.

The two sides also agreed on the importance of coordinating international positions to support the negotiating process, as this is the best way to spare the region and the world dangerous and unintended consequences.
