Baghdad: The Iraqi Institute for Dialogue called for resorting to diplomatic solutions and not engaging in the repercussions of the US attack on Iran, which will have very worrying security, political, and environmental consequences. It warned at the same time that any further escalation will lead to devastating consequences that extend beyond the region.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the institute said in a press release on Monday that “the US attacks, and those of the Zionist entity before them, constitute a flagrant violation of all norms of international law, and Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself in accordance with international law.” It warned that the repercussions of the escalation pose a threat that extends beyond the region and increases the risk of a third world war.
It added, “The international community is required to intensify efforts to find a political solution that prevents the escalation of the crisis, contains the conflict, and stops the violation of the United Nations Charter.” It highlighted the danger of bombing nuclear facilities, which threatens human lives and environmental balance and leads to unpredictable consequences for global stability and climate pollution.
It explained that “the United States was supposed to continue the negotiation process with Iran to reach a peaceful solution to the nuclear program, without abandoning the diplomatic track and slipping behind Netanyahu’s plan that aims to escalate and expand the scope of the conflict according to a plan to reshape all countries in the region,” calling on the international community to intensify efforts to restore the political and diplomatic track to resolve the crisis away from military escalation.
