Syrian Interior Ministry Announces Arrest of ISIS Desert Governor


Damascus: The Syrian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of an ISIS leader nicknamed the Desert Governor. Ministry Spokesman Noureddine al-Baba revealed during a press conference that a strategic security operation was carried out by security units in the Damascus countryside. This operation, coordinated with the General Intelligence Service, targeted specific locations of a terrorist cell responsible for the bombing of Mar Elias Church in the al-Duwaileh neighborhood. The cell, linked to ISIS, was noted to have no affiliations with any religious organization.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the investigation of one detained terrorist, crucial information was extracted regarding the locations of the cell’s hideouts. Acting on this intelligence, the authorities were able to raid the hideouts, leading to the arrest of all cell members. Additionally, a cache of weapons and explosives was confiscated during the operation.
