Foreign Ministry Urges Japan to Reevaluate Iraq’s Security Status

Baghdad: The Foreign Ministry has emphasized the necessity for Japan to reassess Iraq’s security situation and reconsider its designation as a high-risk country. The call was made during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Baghdad, where Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Ulum, the Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations, hosted Akira Endo, the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors. These discussions were set within the framework of existing agreements and memoranda of understanding between Iraq and Japan.

In regional matters, both parties expressed approval for the recent truce resulting in a ceasefire between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Israeli entity. The Undersecretary reiterated the appeal for Japan to reassess Iraq’s security situation, citing the current stability in Iraq as a reason to remove the country from Japan’s high-risk list.

Both nations emphasized the significance of continuing bilateral cooperation across various fields to benefit both countries’ interests.
