Attempt to Smuggle Over 1 Kilogram of Drugs Foiled at Shalamcheh Crossing

Basra: An attempt to smuggle more than one kilogram of drugs through the Shalamcheh outlet was thwarted by the Border Ports Authority. The thwarted smuggling involved a foreign traveler who tried to bring narcotics into the country through the Shalamcheh border crossing.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Shalamcheh Border Port Directorate successfully apprehended the foreign traveler, seizing a total of 1,400 kilograms and 400 grams of crystal methamphetamine. The drugs were expertly concealed within metal containers as part of a failed smuggling attempt.

The seizure was executed by the Technical Division in collaboration with the port’s Anti-Narcotics Division. A formal seizure report was prepared, and the suspect, along with the confiscated narcotic substance, was handed over to the Anti-Narcotics and Substances Directorate for legal proceedings.
