Baghdad: The State of Law Coalition’s MP, Thaer Makhif al-Jubouri, has announced that controversial laws will be deferred to the next parliamentary session, emphasizing that it is not feasible to approve them during the remainder of the current parliament’s term.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Jubouri stated that the Parliament will resume its sessions after the legislative recess ends on July 7. He highlighted that while parliamentary committees have numerous laws to consider, including some significant ones, the approval of all during the current term is unlikely.

Al-Jubouri pointed out that most members of parliament are prioritizing the interests of their factions and blocs over those of the Iraqi populace. As a result, no MP is expected to propose controversial laws for approval, including the critical oil and gas law.

He further explained that early campaigning for the upcoming parliamentary elections began eight months prior to the election date, with noticeable use of public funds in these campaigns, particularly by bloc leaders. Al-Jubouri urged the Election Commission to take a decisive stance on this issue.
