New york: Iran has officially addressed the United Nations, submitting a letter to both the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council, calling for condemnation of recent statements made by the United States and Israel regarding Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, emphasized Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, urging the international body to denounce what Iran perceives as terrorist threats from US and Israeli officials. These statements, Iran argues, are in violation of international law and the UN Charter, and should be considered illegal and irresponsible.

The letter requests the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to remind all parties of their legal obligations to abstain from instigating or supporting acts of terrorism against officials of other nations. It also calls for measures to hold accountable those responsible for such wrongful acts, within the framework of the UN Charter and international counter-terrorism instruments.

Iravani highlighted that the US and Israel have made public threats to assassinate Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He described this as an example of state terrorism, urging the UN to address these provocative statements.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi criticized US President Donald Trump for his remarks claiming to have prevented a “horrible and humiliating death” for Khamenei. Trump stated that he had been considering lifting sanctions on Iran until Khamenei declared a victory over the US, which led Trump to retract the possibility of sanctions relief.

The US president also claimed to have halted an assassination plot against Khamenei, criticizing the Iranian leader for his statement on Tehran’s alleged victory over Israel.
