Tehran: Tehran has asked the United Nations to recognize Israel and Washington’s responsibility for the 12-day war against it, which ended on June 24 with a ceasefire. The Iranian request came according to a letter sent by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, published on Sunday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in the letter, Araqchi stated, “We officially request the UN Security Council to recognize the Israeli entity and the United States as the initiators of the aggression and to recognize their subsequent responsibility, including the payment of compensation and redress.” The letter marks a significant diplomatic move by Tehran, highlighting their expectation for international accountability.

On Saturday, Iran announced the formation of a special legal working group “to pursue the aggression of the Israeli entity and the United States in international forums.” This task force is expected to play a crucial role in documenting and addressing grievances related to the conflict.

The Iranian president’s aide emphasized “the need for accurate documentation of this aggression and war crimes,” underscoring the importance of gathering evidence. The task force is obligated, in cooperation with all relevant agencies, to investigate attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities, violations of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s system, and illegal acts that violate human rights. This initiative reflects Iran’s broader strategy to seek justice through international legal channels.
