Al-Sudani Pushes Forward Baghdad Metro Project with Innovative Strategy

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has issued directives for the completion of the Baghdad Metro project, introducing a new approach to its development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a meeting chaired by Prime Minister al-Sudani was held on Sunday to address the procedures for advancing the Baghdad Metro project. The session was attended by key figures including the head of the Iraq Development Fund, the Mayor of Baghdad, and the Prime Minister’s advisor.

The focus of the meeting was on establishing a new vision and mechanisms for the project’s development and implementation, following the rejection of previous company bids. It was decided to adopt global best practices, which involve forming an alliance between the government and both local and foreign investors. Implementation will be carried out by international companies, requiring in-depth research and studies of the project’s phases. These phases encompass infrastructure, consulting work, systems, trains, control, and comprehensive environmental, social, and economic evaluations. This innovative approach integrates financing, implementation, and management into a cohesive plan.

Prime Minister al-Sudani underscored the significance of this major infrastructure project, instructing that procedures be completed in line with the new vision. He also called for the finalization of relevant consulting studies to be presented at the next meeting, ensuring all requirements for the project’s completion are met.
