Baghdad: Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party, Nouri al-Maliki, emphasized the necessity of Iraq being a strong state, equipped with all the means to defend its people and holy sites. In a televised address on Saturday evening, coinciding with the advent of the holy month of Muharram, al-Maliki highlighted the importance of Iraq’s sovereignty and resilience in the face of regional challenges.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Maliki referenced the reform efforts of Imam Hussein, describing them as a realistic goal during a difficult period. He noted that reform should not merely serve political or partisan purposes, as Iraq is the birthplace of the renaissance of Imam Hussein and should lead by example.

Al-Maliki reiterated that Iraq must be a robust nation, capable of defending its sovereignty, its people, and its sacred sites. He warned that Iraq remains vulnerable to the significant transformations and challenges currently affecting the region, echoing sentiments expressed by the represe
ntative of the supreme religious authority.
