Baghdad: Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani emphasized the importance of facilitating procedures for implementing the provisions of the General Amnesty Law and ensuring that all possible facilities are provided to complete the cases of those included in the law within legal and humanitarian frameworks.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Justice released a statement detailing an expanded meeting chaired by Minister Shawani with administrative staff at the Juvenile Reform Department. This meeting is part of a series of periodic sessions aimed at assessing the implementation of plans and procedures to develop correctional institutions.

The statement indicated that during the meeting, the measures taken were reviewed, and the implementation rates of the plans approved by the ministry were monitored. Discussions also focused on the challenges and obstacles facing the department’s work and potential solutions to ensure continued provision of correctional and welfare services to the targeted groups.

Shawani underscored the necessity of providing all required administrative and logistical support to enable the department to fulfill its duties. He reiterated the importance of facilitating procedures for implementing the General Amnesty Law and ensuring all possible facilities are in place to complete relevant cases legally and humanely.

The statement further mentioned that, to enhance security measures in correctional centers, Shawani directed that the Juvenile Correctional Department be equipped with adequate correctional guards and enforcement personnel to maintain security within these institutions.

Additionally, the statement highlighted the Minister’s directive to take urgent steps toward implementing a project to construct an integrated correctional complex for juveniles in Abu Ghraib District. This project aims to align with national and international human rights standards and the government’s objective of developing correctional infrastructure.
