Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed: “The government is proceeding with all measures and steps that consolidate the civil rights of all fraternal communities.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from his media office detailed that Al-Sudani received the head of the Mandaean religion in Iraq and the world, Sheikh Sattar Jabbar al-Helu. The meeting focused on the conditions of Iraqi citizens who follow the Mandaean religion both within Iraq and globally, emphasizing the government’s efforts to support diversity and promote harmonious coexistence among the nation’s people.

The Prime Minister highlighted the historical significance of Mandaeans in Iraqi society, describing their presence as a continuation of the ancient cultural heritage of Mesopotamia. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the civil rights of all fraternal groups, safeguarding their freedom to practice religious and social customs, and countering divisive and harmful rhetoric. Furthermore, he emphasized the government’s backing of social and cultural initiatives that strengthen the social fabric across Iraq.
