Basra: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, during his visit to Basra Governorate, confirmed that the government has developed strategic solutions to tackle the ongoing water crisis. He emphasized that these initiatives are crucial for the region’s sustainability and prosperity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister al-Sudani highlighted the seawater desalination project as a pivotal component of these strategic solutions, noting that the project has reached its final stages. Additionally, the government has approved Basra’s request to increase the number of desalination projects, further enhancing the region’s capacity to address water scarcity.

In a significant development, Turkey has agreed to release a water quota to Iraq, as confirmed through communications with the Prime Minister. This agreement is expected to alleviate some of the immediate water shortages faced by the country.

Al-Sudani also pointed out the alarming extent of encroachments on river banks, which has prompted the government to initiate a campaign to remove these illegal structures. He urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities in this endeavor to restore the natural flow of the rivers and protect the water resources.
